“Tired”

AT Day 45

Miles: 24.47

Total Miles: 835.17

(Gravel road pull off; near Lynchburg Reservoir)

Very tired all day today. As such, going to keep it short. I really need to get to sleep.

Camped on what we thought was an old road but we later realized was an active trail. Fortunately nobody was on it from 9pm to 8am, as our tents were literally right in the way. That would have been embarrassing.

Cut my hand on a rock in an attempt to dig a cat hole. Nothing major. Just frusterating.

Was one of the first mornings where I was woken up by the direct sunlight at dawn.

We were making good miles and time in the start of the day but both of us were dragging today I feel. It was funny joking with Leo, as he’s new to the AT and so many of his grumbling about incline were in my head when I started. I thought those voices had quieted because the trail had become more mellow. But after hiking with Leo, I think that it’s just that I got more used to it.

I had a gal ask me today about my legs. We were all stopped there to get water from a stream before the climb and she goes, “how long do you have to hike before you get legs like that?”

I told her around 15 years.

Texted with Boots a bit in the morning. Both of us excited for her to visit in June. Wish it could be sooner but grateful it’s not later than it already is. Mostly swimming in gratitude.

Very tired through much of today. I’ve got 4.5 miles with Leo to his car tomorrow. He’ll then bring me into town. The plan was just to resupply and come back to trail but at this rate I think I may take a day off and get a motel. We’ll see.

Wormwood.
